Easy silk scarf tutorial

Guest post: The Holiday Ruffle Scarf

I can't even tell you how excited I am about this tutorial! It is so easy, and it looks so elegant! Here are the materials you need:
* 11''x60'' piece of satin
*sewing machine and matching thread
*scissors
*measuring tape
*white crayon

Step 1:
Cut your satin to size. The size I used is a rough estimate. I had a lot of scraps of satin in different colors that I have been making these scarves with. Each of them are a few inches different, but they all end up looking pretty much the same!

Sewing cute hat for girls

While we were at a restaurant, an absolutely gorgeous teenage girl walked in with her friends. She was wearing a pretty hat that caught my eye. When she turned around and I saw the back, I was completely smitten with the hat. It was a combination of beautiful and girly and a tad bit quirky. On the way out, I stopped at the table (bold, I know!) and told her how pretty it was and then asked if I could check it out. It was knitted and I don’t knit, but the wheels started spinning in my little brain.

Hat 17When I got home, I immediately sat down and made hats until I got it right. The amazing part is that all of them worked just fine, but I kept tweaking it. I love that this project is so forgiving and easy!

Babushka Tutorial

Emma and Lily have worn their babushkas everyday since I made them last week.  They are fun and practical… and apparently quite comfortable… since they won’t take them off.
Here’s how to make one (or 2 or 3):  This tutorial is for a child sized babushka, but it can easily be made larger for an adult.
You will need:
  • 11″ x 11″ scrap of fabric (A)
  • 24″ of rick rack- optional
  • 2 1/2″ x 19″ scrap of accent fabric (B)
  • 2″ x 6″ scrap of accent fabric (B)- optional if you want your elastic in a fabric casing
  • 1/4″ wide elastic

ornament craft: Making felt doves

felt bird ornaments

a felt dove ornament

I mentioned it last week, but I realized some of you may have missed it: everyday this week I will have instructions for a new handmade ornament.  You probably caught on by now, seeing it’s wednesday and look! another tutorial.  This is my christmas gift to you–all my readers! I’ve said it before, but I mean it: you are awesome. And you deserve a present, or five.
This little bird takes four strips of felt and five stitches to make. Really, that’s it.

Girls Spring Mini Tote - tutorial

As a kid, one of my favorite things about going to church on Easter Sunday was carrying a special little purse. Mine was round, white wicker with a hinged lid. I wore white gloves with itty-bitty flowers on them just to have something to put in the purse when I got to church. I was always such a tomboy, I can hardly believe it was me. I guess everyone likes to dress up and be girlie once in a while.
